         <head> Background</head>
         <p> Patrick (Pat) and Patricia (Patty) Crowley were leaders of the Christian Family Movement.  They were appointed by Pope Paul VI in December 1964 to serve on the Special Papal Commission on Birth and Population Control.  They conducted surveys of CFM members on birth control as part of their service on the Commission.</p>
