Genevera Ducro was born in Ashtabula, Ohio on August 1, 1900 to John P. Ducro, a merchant, and Carrie L. Butts Ducro. She was valedictorian of her class at Ashtabula High School and attended Mount Holyoke College from 1918-1922. She was secretary of her class and graduated with a B.A. in economics and English literature. Ducro was a Young Women's Christian Association secretary in New York and Illinois, and taught junior high school for many years in Ohio and in Hawaii. She attended Case Western Reserve University, receiving a Master's in Library Science in about 1944. She worked in various libraries and was a founding member of the Women's Fortnightly Club and the Ashtabula branch of the American Association of University Women. Ducro lived with Florence Brugger, a Mount Holyoke College classmate, for a number of years. She died in Ashtabula on August 30, 1987 at the age of eighty-seven.

Scope and Contents of the Collection

The Genevra Ducro Papers consist of a photograph album, biographical information, and photographs. The material chiefly relates to her time as a student at Mount Holyoke College, 1918-1922. Included in the album are numerous snapshots depicting social activities and college traditions. The majority of the photographs show Ducro and her friends atop Mt. Holyoke Range on Mountain Day, participating in theatrical performances, and playing in the snow. A few photographs also show Mount Holyoke College students at the Young Women's Christian Association summer camp at Silver Bay, N.Y. Scenes of different parts of campus, the interior of a dorm room, and pictures from the 1922 Commencement are also included. The biographical material, 1925-1987, includes a biographical note, a newspaper clipping discussing an automobile trip Ducro took with classmate Florence Brugger and her obituary. Two copies of a photograph taken during her senior year at Mount Holyoke College are also included in the collection.
