music and dance, and African American gospel music recorded live outdoors on
Neptune Plaza in front of the Thomas Jefferson Building, Library of Congress,
at concerts from April through October 1985, sponsored by the American Folklife
Center and the National Council for the Traditional Arts.
Scope and Content
The 1985 Neptune Plaza Concert Series Collection consists of
manuscript and print materials, audio recordings, and graphic materials that
document the 1985 concert series sponsored by the American Folklife Center. The
annual series, which began in 1977, features the presentation of folk
traditions from many cultures. The concerts take place on the Neptune Plaza at
the front of the Jefferson Building of the Library of Congress between May and
September. Adverse weather conditions sometimes force the concerts indoors. The
1985 series was produced with the assistance of the National Council for the
Traditional Arts.

Description
Omaha Indians Hethu'shka Society
Members of the Hethu'shka or Warrior Society
of the Omaha Tribe present traditional dances and songs, including a series of
war dances and the Buffalo dance. The program is narrated by Dennis Hastings,
historian and archivist. Print material, photographs, and slides: Folders

Ana Martínez
Ana Martínez and company present Flamenco
music, song, and dance. Pieces include Alegrias, Fandagos, and Sevillanas
forms. The performers also explain and demonstrate various percussive
accompaniments, and invite audience participation. Print material, photographs,
